Early detection is one of the most effective ways to fight breast and cervical cancer, and Grace Health recently hosted a Path to Prevention event that brought together local organizations to raise awareness and encourage screenings. Thamary Correa-Johnson, Douglas Sytsma, Marshelle Lincoln, and Nermin Dimbiloglu, organizers of the Path to Prevention event, collaborated with the Grace Health Team and community partners, including Bronson Battle Creek, Meridian, Aetna, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP) Exact Sciences, and American Cancer Society for this event. The purpose was to provide information and education about cancer prevention, answer questions about cancer screenings, assist in scheduling cancer screenings, help close gaps in care, and share information about community resources available. Grace Health served 78 people during the event and assisted and/or scheduled 184 services for attendees – connecting them to preventive care, behavioral health, dental, scheduling wellness exams and cancer screenings. Thamary Correa-Johnson said, “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the community come together to support such an important cause. Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to prioritize their health.” Grace Health is planning several events this year as part of their Path to Prevention work for 2025.
